Customize the forgot password workflow

Updated over 3 months ago

Introduction

The Forgot Password Page Builder allows Admins to tailor the password reset process across all public-facing modules. You can design custom messaging, apply branded themes, and choose between redirect options like an instant gratification page or a simple success notice. This builder supports a 2-step process and integrates with predefined reset and confirmation templates.

To access the Forgot Password Page Builder, go to:
Event Setup > Registration > Forgot Password Page Builder

From this section, you can:

  • Add or modify Steps

  • Set up Reset Password Email Templates

  • Configure Instant Gratification Templates

How do I build the reset steps?

Create the 2-step password reset journey

Step 1: Request submission

  1. This page appears after the user clicks “Forgot Password”

  2. Add interface elements:

    • Email text box

    • Instructional text

    • Password reset buttons

  3. Customize page options:

    • Redirect to Login page with a success message, or

    • Redirect to a Reset Confirmation Template (Instant Gratification)

Tip: You can apply themes and filters here for specific audiences (e.g., by attendee type)

Step 2: Password entry

  1. This step is shown after the user clicks the reset link in their email

  2. Elements to include:

    • New Password fields

    • Submit button

    • Additional instructional or interface text

  3. Filters can be applied to show different versions to different user types

How do I configure Reset Password templates?

Email templates triggered by password reset requests

Navigate to:
Setup > Content > Templates > Profiles section

Default templates include:

  • Admin Reset Password (for admin logins)

  • Reset Password (for public users)

These templates are used when Step 1’s redirect option is set to “Return to previous page with success message.”

Required Template Fields:

  • Reset Password Link (required)

  • Support Email (optional)

Add relevant instructions informing the recipient that this email was triggered by a password reset request.

How do I use Instant Gratification templates?

These are shown when Step 1 redirects to a visual confirmation page instead of an email message.

In the Profiles section of the Templates area, you’ll find:

  • Admin Password Reset Instant Gratification

  • Public Password Reset Instant Gratification

These display a message like: “Your request was received. Please check your email to reset your password.”

Required Template Field: email address

Additional Tips and Behavior

Important rules and configuration notes

  • Reset Links expire after 24 hours

    • Expired link error message: “The reset request is older than 24 hours and has expired.” This can be edited under Languages > Registration > Messages

  • Applies to all modules
Though created under Registration, this setup governs Forgot Password across all modules.

  • Admin vs Public Users
Use the correct templates for Admin users vs standard registrants to ensure correct styling and language.

The Forgot Password Page Builder gives you control over a crucial part of the user experience. Whether you want to keep it simple with a redirect or deliver a polished visual confirmation, this builder lets you match the reset process to your event’s branding and workflow. Don't forget to test both steps and confirm your email templates are correctly mapped for every user type.
